Transport Statement Salford
Transport Statement for Community Centre in Ordsall, Salford
Of all our projects, our community projects have to be our favourites. Reading the stories of the communities and the buildings that represent them brings a tear to our eyes and this is one of them. They make us proud to be a small part of the work that these community leaders put in.
Some fabulous old buildings are just too special to allow to rot, and that was precisely the case with this lovely old red brick church and hall located in the heart of Salford. This architectural gem, typical of its area and period, features intricate brickwork and charming detailing that reflect the craftsmanship of its time. For many years, this wonderful structure had stood empty, its doors closed to the community that once filled it with life and activity. However, the spirit of the local residents shone through as they rallied together to breathe new life into this historic building. Their vision was to transform it into a vibrant community centre that would serve as a focal point for the surrounding residential neighbourhood, fostering connections among residents and providing a space for various activities and events.
The initiative to repurpose the church and hall was met with enthusiasm from the community. Local meetings were held to discuss ideas, gather input, and outline the types of programs and services that would benefit residents of all ages. From art classes to fitness programs, the potential uses for the space were endless. The project aimed not only to preserve the historical significance of the building but also to enhance the community spirit and provide a venue for cultural exchange and social interaction.
As the building came with limited parking, which posed a challenge for the community centre's accessibility, iRIS sustainable planning transport consultants were engaged to provide a comprehensive transport statement. This statement meticulously covered various aspects of transportation in the area, including the availability of on-street and public car parking facilities. The consultants conducted thorough research into the local area’s parking dynamics, assessing how residents and visitors could conveniently access the centre. Additionally, they evaluated road safety measures to ensure that the influx of traffic would not compromise the well-being of pedestrians and cyclists in the vicinity.
Furthermore, the transport statement examined the local highways network, identifying key routes and potential bottlenecks that could affect accessibility. With car ownership trends in mind, the consultants also analysed the demographic profile of the neighbourhood, considering how many residents owned vehicles and how many relied on alternative modes of transport. This analysis was crucial in making informed recommendations to improve access to the community centre while promoting sustainable transport methods.
In conclusion, the transformation of this old red brick church and hall into a community centre represents not only a revival of a cherished local landmark but also a commitment to fostering community spirit and sustainable living. The collaborative efforts of the residents, combined with the expertise of transport consultants, are paving the way for a brighter future for this vibrant neighbourhood, ensuring that the building stands as a testament to community resilience and creativity for generations to come.
