After the successful completion of phase one of their development, the directors of Affordable Windows were eager to advance to the next stage of their project. This second phase involved the ambitious plan to create a small group of industrial units strategically located within their existing site. The intention behind this initiative was not only to maximise the utilisation of available space but also to provide an invaluable resource for smaller firms seeking practical, purpose-built premises that would cater to their specific operational needs.

To ensure the successful execution of this plan, a comprehensive review of the previous transport assessment and travel plan was conducted. This involved a meticulous analysis of traffic generation data to guarantee that the introduction of these new industrial units would not lead to any adverse conditions on the surrounding highway infrastructure. By closely examining the potential impact on traffic flow and safety, the team sought to mitigate any concerns that might arise from increased vehicular movement. In addition, the original travel plan was developed to incorporate measures specifically tailored to accommodate the new units, ensuring that transportation logistics were seamlessly integrated into the overall design.

Recognising the importance of accessibility and safety for all individuals traveling to and from the site, particular attention was paid to design factors that could potentially create conflicts for pedestrians and cyclists. To address these challenges, we collaborated with the architect to propose a series of enhancements aimed at fostering a more inclusive environment. This included the creation of dedicated pedestrian walkways that would provide safe and convenient routes for foot traffic, as well as the repositioning of cycle parking facilities to ensure they were easily accessible and strategically located. By implementing these changes, we aimed to cultivate a more harmonious atmosphere within the site, encouraging a vibrant community of businesses while promoting sustainable modes of transportation. The ultimate goal was to create an environment where both small firms and their employees could thrive, benefiting from the thoughtful integration of design and functionality.
