With the railway station being less than a 5-minute walk from the property and a mere 10-minute train ride to Birmingham, this former shop and self-contained flat was perfectly positioned to be transformed into a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO). This transformation not only maximises the use of the space but also caters to the increasing demand for affordable housing options in urban areas.


For this HMO, a Transport Statement and Travel Plan were meticulously researched to highlight the excellent transport links in the area. The Transport Statement provided a comprehensive analysis of the public transport options available, detailing the frequency of train services, the connectivity to other key destinations, and the overall efficiency of the transport network. The Travel Plan outlined strategies to encourage sustainable travel behaviors among residents, emphasizing the benefits of walking, cycling, and utilising public transport as viable alternatives to car travel. Additionally, Parking Surveys were conducted to demonstrate that there was sufficient capacity to handle any parking needs that may arise in association with the property. These surveys assessed the availability of on-street parking and nearby facilities, ensuring that the area could accommodate the vehicles of residents and visitors without causing congestion or inconvenience.


The findings indicated that the local infrastructure could effectively support the residents of the HMO, further reinforcing the suitability of the location for low or zero car households. Overall, the combination of strategic planning, thorough research, and community consideration makes this location a prime example of how urban living can be both convenient and sustainable.
