Parking can sometimes pose significant challenges for both residents and visitors. This location in St Albans, Hertfordshire, was positioned along a road with minimal off-street parking. Although our client could offer some off-road parking, the council aimed to ensure ample parking was available for everyone.

 

To tackle these challenges, a comprehensive Parking Assessment was carried out using the Lambeth Method of Survey. This method is renowned for its systematic approach and presents results clearly and accessibly, making it easy for interested parties to grasp the findings.


The St Albans parking survey showed that while parking spaces were indeed limited, there was still some potential for more effective use of kerbside parking. This insight is vital, as it suggests that despite the seemingly dire situation, there are opportunities to optimise existing resources without necessarily expanding the physical parking infrastructure.

 

Based on these findings, additional recommendations were developed and presented to the planners. These suggestions included exploring various methods to further increase parking capacity within the current framework. Potential strategies might involve marking parking spaces, creating designated parking zones for specific user groups, or even considering the introduction of parking permits for residents to better manage demand. Such measures could not only relieve immediate parking pressures but also promote a more organised approach to parking management in the area, ultimately benefiting both the local community and visitors.
