About iRIS Sustainable Planning - What We Do and How We Do It
When it comes to dealing with the local highways authority, you want it to be fast, comprehensive and hassle free. At iRIS Sustainable Planning that's exactly what you get. I know the frustration of red tape and slow delivery and I'm determined that there is another way forward.
As a former Royal Navy servicewoman and an experienced educator with a specialised background in Geography and Sustainability I tend towards taking the most direct route to the desired result and prioritise speed and efficiency - sometimes taking my clients aback with how quickly I 'get the job done'.
My academic journey, which includes a BA (Hons) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Geography from the prestigious University of Exeter, has equipped me with a comprehensive skill set that is vital for effective community engagement. I leverage these skills to facilitate meaningful interactions and collaborations within various communities, ensuring that their voices are heard and considered in the planning process. Furthermore, I am proud to be an associate member of the Chartered Institute for Highways and Transportation (CIHT), which underscores my commitment to professional development and adherence to industry standards.
Since 2019, I have dedicated myself to the field of Highways and Transportation, where I have been actively developing my expertise in producing a wide range of transport and highways reports. Throughout my career transition, I have taken on the responsibility of planning and implementing a diverse array of travel plans across multiple sectors, ensuring that all initiatives meet the rigorous standards set by BREEAM, which is the world's leading sustainability assessment method for master planning projects, infrastructure, and buildings. Since setting up iRIS Sustainable Planning in 2020, my work has grown to encompass a variety of assessments, including Pedestrian Comfort Surveys and Swept Path Assessments, which are critical for ensuring the safety and efficiency of transportation systems.
I have had the opportunity to work on projects of varying scales, ranging from small initiatives such as new farm access points and medical centers to larger undertakings like industrial estates and expansive residential developments. My portfolio includes significant community complexes across England, including the bustling urban landscape of London, where the challenges of transportation planning are both complex and rewarding.
Why iRIS? Well, not only does the iris of the eye control how much light is filtered in to the brain, showing a clearer picture - you may have spotted our logo represents this - but Iris was a swift messenger and a goddess of the crossroads, meaning she was a perfect fit for our business.

Outside of my professional commitments, I am passionate about athletics and have a rich history in competitive sports. I am a former champion in the Lancashire Steeplechase, which speaks to my dedication and competitive spirit. Currently, I represent the Preston Harriers in events such as Hammer Throw and Endurance Running. Additionally, I serve as an event group coach specializing in Athletics Throws, which includes disciplines like Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, and Hammer. My coaching efforts are focused on nurturing young talent, and I take great pride in seeing my athletes compete at both local and national levels. On weekends, you can typically find me either coaching aspiring athletes in a field or competing myself, as I believe in the importance of leading by example and fostering a love for athletics in others.

I look forward to hearing about your project and providing you with the benefit of my experience.
