What is a Pedestrian Comfort Survey?

A Pedestrian Comfort Survey is a requirement for larger developments in the Greater London Area to assess whether the footways can cope with an increase in pedestrians.
The surveys are carried out during a typical peak time and determine whether any improvements need to be made in the footways to accomodate your new development.
If you are planning a larger development within London it is possible that you will be asked to provide a pedestrian comfort survey.

In order to carry out a pedestrian comfort survey, iRIS transport consultants will survey the streets adjacent to your site, create a plan of the street area and count pedestrian footflow during the required times. These figures will then be run through the Pedestrian Comfort Level calculator to determine the current and predicted levels of traffic.

It is likely that a Pedestrian Comfort Survey will need to be carried out in conjuction with a Healthy Streets Assessment.
